TONGANLI

The Tong Gate inherits the old rhyme, and the An Mansion shines with new chapters.

When the fingertips caress the uneven texture of the logo, The hubbub of the old alleys seems to penetrate time And ring in our ears

Sunlight filters down through the gaps between the wutong leaves.

It penetrates the layers upon layers of new leaves.

Gently, it shines on the red brick wall covered by thick shade.

Standing in front of the gateway of "Tonganli".

It seems that with just one step, one can step into the revolving door of the old days.

Inside and outside the door, light and shadow intersect.

A Shanghai - style amorous play that has been brewing for a century slowly begins.

The first act of this time-space dialogue.

It is opened by the door plaque handwritten by Mr. Wu Liang'an.

The three characters "Tonganli" stand out vividly on the whole exquisitely carved marble.

Amid the pauses and movements of the brushstrokes.

The unique strength and charm of the plaques of the Shikumen in old Shanghai are fully displayed.

Moving forward, beneath the feet are the steady and elegant basalt black bricks.

The brass logo is deeply embedded in them, like a delicate badge.

When the footsteps pass over the bricks.

It seems to touch the mechanism of time.

Time and space shift accordingly.

The modern temperament of Shanghai over the past century is reinterpreted here and shines with new brilliance.

Wherever one looks, there is craftsmanship everywhere.

The Tong'anli LOGO treated with intaglio carving technique.

It is as if it were rubbed from a yellowed ancient book.

It echoes the "dragon scale scroll" binding element of the facing screen wall.

The design inspiration for the building number comes from the deconstruction of the LOGO

The geometric shape of the Shikumen door frame is disassembled and reconstructed into simple modern numbers.

On the dark bronze base plate.

The edges of the relief-carved numbers are inlaid with small translucent marble.

Under the reflection of the night lights.

It is like the broken diamond spots on the window lattice of an old Western-style house.

Even for functional signs such as umbrella stands and waste bins

the design is by no means hasty.

They, in the form of miniature buildings,

skillfully condense the spatial hierarchy of Shanghai-style alleys

and the charm of door lintels

and window lattices into every moment of daily use

becoming artistic miniatures integrated into the space.

Every piece of stone here holds the sound of the tides of the Bund.

Every copper pattern is engraved with the earthly warmth of the alleys.

Together, they form a three - dimensional "Dictionary of Shanghai - style Culture".

When fingertips glide over the concave - convex texture of the logo.

A wonderful sense of induction spontaneously arises.

The noisy sounds of the old alleys --

The laughter of children, the greetings among neighbors.

And the old songs floating out from the gramophone.

As if piercing through the barriers of time.

Ring clearly in our ears.

With warmth and breath.

Immersed in the meticulously constructed Shanghai - style theater in Tong'anli.

We are both the audience and the characters in the play.

Wherever our steps take us, our figures blend into the deep scenery of the Shikumen.

This space is connected by blood to the city's heritage that has endured for centuries.

It continues to write the ever - lasting Shanghai - style charm and modern legends.

Enabling the urban memories of Shanghai to be passed down forever and continue without end.
